Timothy L. Battista

ASHTABULA - Timothy Louis Battista, 56, of 1206 Bunker Hill Road died Saturday, August 7, 2010 at Hospice of the Western Reserve.

He was born November 22, 1953 in Ashtabula, the son of Joseph L. and C. Ruth (Hennon) Battista and had been a lifelong Ashtabula resident.

A 1972 graduate of Ashtabula High School, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Malone College and his Master’s from Youngstown State University. He had also taken numerous courses since then to further his education.

A science teacher at Riverside High School in Painesville for the past 25 years, he taught AP Physics, Physics, Chemistry, and General Science. While at Riverside, he was also known as the “Voice of the Beavers” for many years announcing basketball and football games. He served as PTA president and coach of the Academic Challenge and Academic Decathlon Teams. He had also previously taught at Buckeye Schools and Grand River Academy.

A former member of St. Joseph Church, he belonged to the Ohio State Teachers Association and the National Physics Teachers and National Science Teachers Associations.
He loved being a teacher and thrived on working with the advanced kids who really wanted to learn. He was voted into the #1 Club at Riverside on numerous occasions, an honor of recognition from graduating Riverside students who choose their favorite teacher during their educational career.

Mr. Battista also liked old cars, Star Trek, and Mickey Mouse (especially Sorcerer Mickey).

Survivors include his wife, Diana (Logan) Battista, whom he married August 20, 1977; and his two sons, Aaron and Sean, of whom he was so very proud.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 PM on Friday, August 13, 2010 at the Zaback-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula, OH.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 AM Saturday, August 14, 2010 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 1200 East 21st Street, Ashtabula. Fr. Joseph Ruggieri will preside.

Contributions may be made to the family to establish a memorial scholarship fund in Tim’s name.
