Eugene O. Osborne
ASHTABULA - Eugene “Gene” O. Osborne, 81, passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
Born September 21, 1935 in McDowell, Kentucky, he was the son of Allen “Pink” and Corzettia (Newsome) Osborne. In 1991, Gene retired from Elkem Metals (previously Union Carbide) as a maintenance supervisor after 35 years of service. In the late 1960s he was a part-time seasonal police officer at Geneva-on-the- Lake. He was always a hard worker who loved to keep busy and was affectionately called “Mr. Fix-it.” Gene enjoyed watching the Cleveland Browns and Cavs along with Lakeside and Buckeye school activities. He also enjoyed gardening, dancing, cooking and country music.
An avid golfer, Gene was a member of the YMCA, the BPO Elks Club, the Skinners Golf group at Maple Ridge Golf Course, and the Ashtabula Senior Golf Traveling Leagues. Just this March, he won 1st place in his age division at the Gulf Coast Senior Games 2017 and was scheduled to compete in December in the Senior Olympics.
He attended First Presbyterian Church. Gene and Pat spent many winters in Florida after retirement where he enjoyed many beloved friends, teaching a stained-glass class, walking 2 miles before sunrise, and flipping pancakes for the monthly breakfasts at Kings Gate Park.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years Patricia (Allshouse) Osborne of Ashtabula; daughters, Natalie A. (David) Volpone and Suzi L. Melaragno, both of Ashtabula; two sons Randy Young of Phoenix, AZ and Vincent Snyder of Ashtabula; and his seven grandchildren Kyle Melaragno, Sidney L. Melaragno, Ericka K. Snyder, Kelley A. (Shane) Sergent, Abbie K. Volpone, Megan (Ryan) Ward, Julia Young, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Oscar, Troy, Junior, Tramble, Ezra, Azzie, and Arnold; three sisters, Angie, Olive, and Vanzie Howell; and his parents.
Calling hours will be held from 10am to 12 Noon with a service to follow on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at the ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula. Kenneth Roberts, Pastor of Pentecostal Church of God, will officiate. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery.
